Haskins Award

Rebranding Effort

The Fred Haskins Award is given annually to an outstanding men’s college golfer in memory of its namesake. Haskins’ greatest impact was in teaching and inspiring junior golfers.  As a tribute to his teaching abilities, his young pupils went on to win more than 150 championships.  In the early 1930s, Haskins also started the Country Club of Columbus Invitational, now held annually as the Southeastern Amateur.

Since its formation in 1971, the Haskins Commission has been devoted to amateur golf and the presentation of the Haskins Award. This coveted trophy honors the year’s outstanding college golfer and the memory of Fred Haskins, an obscure club pro that spent his life nurturing and mentoring amateur golfers. The commission, based in Columbus, Ga., oversees the voting conducted among college golfers, coaches and golf media.

In 2008, Naartjie was commissioned to rebrand the 40 year old award and reposition it as the premier award honoring collegiate golf. In addition to revitalizing the logo and all peripheral sales materials, the agency was instrumental in brokering a co-partnered relationship with GolfWeek, the Golf Channel, and Stifel Nicolas, infusing new enthusiasm and passion for the award and much needed financial support.
